Don’t carry it alone
Checking on a man opens the door. A circle keeps it open. ManKind Project I-Groups are small circles of men who meet regularly to speak honestly and be heard.
What happens in a circle
Each man gets a turn to speak and be heard without being fixed or judged. What’s said in the circle stays there. Some groups are only for men who’ve done MKP’s weekend training, so a coordinator will point you to an open one.
A circle is peer support, not crisis care or therapy. In a crisis, call or text 988.
How it works
- Ask three men how they’re really doing. If he says “fine,” ask again.
- Listen and encourage Don’t fix. If he’s struggling, point him to a friend, a counselor, or 988.
- Post a short video on why this matters, with the hashtag and the 988 number.
- Nominate three men to take the challenge next.
- Follow up a few days later. The second check-in often matters most.
- Sit in a circle Visit a free ManKind Project men’s circle, and bring a man with you.
- Log it and raise money Every step counts toward the goal, and your sponsors give for each one.
If someone isn’t OK
Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. Free and confidential, 24/7, in the US.
If he’s in immediate danger, call 911 and stay with him.
Ask him directly whether he’s thinking about suicide. Listen. Don’t leave him alone if he’s at risk, and make the call together.
